En ny studie publicerad i erkända tidskriften Neuroimage, visar att det finns samband mellan fitness, tjocklek på hjärnbarken och intelligens hos 8-11 åriga barn.
”Fitness and speed-agility are associated with thicker brain cortex, which in turn was associated with higher intelligence.”
”Fitness and speed-agility are associated with thicker brain cortex, which in turn was associated with higher intelligence.”
Cardiorespiratory fitness and speed-agility, but not muscular fitness, were associated with overall cortical thickness. None of the three physical fitness components were related to surface area.
Adiposity may hinder the beneficial influence of cardiorespiratory fitness and speed-agility on cortical thickness, and in turn, on intelligence. Interventions focused on aerobic exercise and motor skills should be implemented to achieve an optimal weight status in an effort to improve brain health.
